Everything's Gonna Be Alright

the clock is ticking,
my thoughts are clicking.
images that swirl in my head,
fill my soul with fear and dread.

what happened to the little girl there?
once full of promise and care?
abandoned.  once.  twice,  and more.
heart and soul removed and left on the floor.

I sing this song with all of my might:
"Mommy, please, just for tonight,
hold me again, hold me real tight,
tell me everything's gonna be alright."

the Light came in and offered hope,
but the darkness lingered as i tried to cope,
with an empty shell once full of life.
i became somebody's mother, somebody's wife.

the days were full, but my soul grew empty.
there was nothing here in my world of plenty.
words seemed hollow and the days were long.
memories played their haunting song.

they sang my lyrics as i turned out the light:
"mommy, please, just for tonight,
hold me again, hold me real tight.
tell me everything's gonna be alright."

emotionless words, a stinging reality,
of living a life of passionless humanity.
playing a part, as if on a stage,
the script not yet finished,
as i turn another page.

the Great Playmaker, Master of Music and Rhyme
writes another scene for His glory divine!
something once dead is springing to life,
a new story to tell and
a new song to write.

instead of demands, His words are so soothing,
as He sings over me, the melody is moving.

these precious words so full of life:
"My Love holds you close today and tonight,
I will hold you again, I will hold you real tight.
I want you to know everything's gonna be alright!
you'll never be alone, for I am always there.
My Grace is enough for this pain you bear.
I am your Promise, and you are My care!"

Enough

You love me enough to build a golden cage, just for  you.
You love me enough to call once a day to ask "how do you do?"
But is that really enough to sacrifice the rest of my life?
Is that really what you want from this soul you call your wife?

You love me enough to come back home every night.
You love me enough to pretend everything is alright.
But is it really enough to live in this castle made of sand?
Is it really enough to put my dreams into your hand?

You love me enough to kiss my head before  you leave.
You love me enough to give me room so I can breathe.
But do you love me enough to hold me when I cry?
And will you love me enough to miss me if I fly?

Is your love enough to keep me from saying "good-bye"?

Your "good enough" is just enough for me to see the lie.

Truth is a branch, not a box, you see.
And souls are made to live cage-free.
Love is real, and sometimes wrought with pain.
And dreams give us hope to face life again.
Actions without emotion are empty and dead.
I'd rather be in your heart, than only in your head.

Under a Painted Sky

We sit in our castles
under a painted sky.
Who painted it anyway,
and why, oh, why?
Was it created for  you and me,
a rare glimpse into eternity?
Or was it a spectacular show of glory,
just another page in the story?
Was it to fill a little time or space,
so the world would slow its hectic pace?
To wonder, to ponder
the mysterious plan,
of the Creator who has us all
in the palm of His hand.
Whatever the reason,
it's good to see
that the Artist took time
to paint something for me!
